Patrick McGoohan was offered the role of James Bond and turned it down on at least two occasions. The master of horror, Stephen King makes reference to John Drake's "cool" in his novel "The Shining". John Drake's cover was as an employee of World Travel. Patrick McGoohan insisted that Drake win against overwhelming odds only if he deserved to win. Cars featured in the series include; a Mini Cooper and a Citroen. Not exactly your run of the mill superspy automobiles! John Drake's immediate superior in MI 9 was Admiral Hobbs, played by Peter Madden. During his stint with NATO, Drake came under the command of ..... Gordon, based in Washington and responsible for South America and Asia. Colonel Keller, responsible for the European sector. And Hardy, based in England and responsible for the Colonies in Africa and India. Five episodes (among them A View from the Villa) were filmed in the Welsh village of Portmeirion that featured in "The Prisoner". Patrick McGoohan used a particularly precise manner of speech when saying lines he considered poorly written. This may at least partially explain the pedantic cadences and rhythms of his speech throughout the series.
